Kerala travel FAQ

Good to know
before you go

Quick answers on seasons, trip length, the new name and working from Kerala.

What is the best time to visit Kerala?

October to March is the most popular season, with drier, milder weather for beaches, backwaters and hill stations. The June to September monsoon is green and quiet, and is the traditional season for Ayurveda treatments.

Is Kerala now called Keralam?

Yes. The state's official name became Keralam on 25 August 2026, matching its name in Malayalam. Kerala is still widely used, and both refer to the same place.

How many days do I need for Kerala?

Five to seven days covers Fort Kochi, Munnar and a night on the Alappuzha backwaters. Add two or three days for Varkala, Thekkady or Wayanad.

Can I work remotely from Kerala?

Indian citizens and OCI cardholders can work remotely from Kerala. India has no digital nomad visa, and a tourist e-visa does not permit work, so foreign visitors meeting companies should travel on the right business visa.

What is a Discovery Trip?

A Discovery Trip is a three or four day visit for companies planning a big project in Keralam. You meet shortlisted teams at Infopark and Technopark, then end the week on the backwaters. Plan one here.
